"Work is Work, Success is Fun." - Dr. Jim Ramsey
Dad said this quote all the time while I was growing up. Usually, he was trying to motivate me to do homework or some task I didn’t want to do, and it drove me crazy. I’ve never heard anyone else say it, I think he made it up on the spot one day. Looking back, I’ve found it to be very true, and our Hinman Dental Society is a great example. All the work that is contributed by our Society members and Hinman staff sets us apart from any other dental meeting, and we have a lot of fun as well! I would like to thank Dr. Slade Lail for all the hard work and leadership he provided this past year. He and his team of Chairs provided us with excellent CE for our Society meetings, added a new small group lectures for us and planned a wonderful Annual Meeting in Nashville. The Annual Meeting is always a highlight of food, fellowship and fun to celebrate all our hard work. Thank you to the Trustees for providing a complimentary hotel night at the Annual Meeting to all members that fulfilled their membership duties.
“Spring Down South” was a great success in March. Congratulations to General Chair Dr. William Rousseau for another “Best Hinman Ever!” Dr. Bob O’Donnell and I had the honor of serving as Program Chairs for his Meeting. I am grateful for their guidance and attention to detail, and the opportunity to work with them over the last several years of planning. Thanks also to you, our Society members, for the role you provided. Your volunteer time, along with Southern hospitality, again delivered the best dental meeting held anywhere, and it is unsurpassed.
As we begin our fall calendar, my program chair Dr. Patrick French and I have put together a great line-up for our three Society meetings. Starting on Monday, September 15, we are happy to have Mr. Tom Viola presenting, “‘Come on Baby, Don’t Fear the Reefer!’: Navigating Dental Pain Management with Analgesics…and Cannabis?”. This will be an informative and entertaining lecture that also will fulfill opioid CE requirements. Our second meeting will be at the Crowne Plaza Atlanta Perimeter on Monday, November 17. Dr. Josh Austin will be presenting “The Mental Dental Connection.” We will investigate the mental stresses that come from the difficulties in dentistry, for both you and your patients. This in-depth look will explore strategies for improved mental health and managing personal and professional challenges. Our last meeting will be at the Georgia Aquarium on Thursday January 22. Bring your entire team for Mr. Steve Anderson as he will be teaching us how to be “The ‘Yes’ Practice Team.” Come laugh, learn and take your team to the top level of performance in this wonderful venue. Say “Yes” to success and fun!
The Hinman Dental Meeting, March 12-14, is going to be spectacular. General Chair Dr. David Anderson, along with Program Chairs Dr. Jane Puskas and Dr. Slade Lail, are bringing us “A Legacy of Excellence” and are finalizing the last details. This program has many top STARS of dentistry, and they have earned their STRIPES putting it together. Which reminds me, we will have a bit more fun as the Meeting celebrates 250 years of the USA! Please support our Meeting by signing up for a committee and serving your required eight hours. It’s your patriotic duty!
Success is Fun! The 2026 Annual Meeting will be held June 5 – 7 in Sandestin, Florida at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort’s Hotel Effie. This is a new Marriott Autograph Collection hotel and will be a trip you do not want to miss! Drs. Brett and Lyndsay Langston are our Annual Meeting Program Chairs, and we are already planning a great time for you and your family. Make your plans to come early or stay a few days after.
Thanks to our Hinman team, led by Executive Director Lynn Leidel, for everything they have done this past year and all that each of you are doing for this one! Lynn, Wendy, Stephanie, Jackie and Caitlyn are fantastic to work with and make Hinman the best in dental meetings.
As a close, I want to reflect on the details, commitment and camaraderie that makes our Society so exceptional. It is truly an honor to serve as your President, and I am inspired by the passion each of you bring to serve our Society. Thank you for this opportunity. I look forward to a year of learning, giving bac, and networking. Let’s also have Success and Fun!
