A Message from Society President Troy Schulman
LAISSEZ LES BONS TEMPS ROULER
“Laissez les bons temps rouler” (French for “Let the Good Times Roll”)…on and on and on!
What a fantastic and eventful year our society had under the great leadership of Dr. David Anderson. I hope to strike the perfect balance of excellence and great fun for all of the members and their families that David and his committees brought to the society meetings. David exuded enthusiasm at the helm of all Hinman events just like one of his favorite Disney characters, Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King, who embodies the spirit of Halloween! Speaking of Disney, what a marvelous way to end this year! The Annual Meeting in Orlando was nothing if not magical for all who attended, although my youngest daughter might not agree after her experience on Tower of Terror! Thank you to the Trustees for their continued support of the Society’s annual tradition.
We all “Expanded our Horizons and Explored our Future” back in March. Congratulations to Dr. Roy McDonald on heading up an out-of-this-world “Best Hinman Ever”! Dr. Brad Greenway and I had the honor to serve as program chairs for his meeting. I experienced first-hand how attention to detail and true southern hospitality come together to provide a terrific scientific and social experience that no other dental meeting can surpass. Cheers to Roy for all his hard work and dedication to the 2023 Hinman Dental Meeting.
It is truly an honor to serve as President this coming year. I am humbled and look forward to continuing the traditions and standards of excellence of the society. We are definitely on a roll, returning
to our in-person Hinman Dental Meeting. A huge thank you to all those who have helped get the good times back these past three years! Our society is full of dedicated and hard-working dentists volunteering
to carry out our mission.
The Cajun French word “Lagniappe” (pronounced lan-yap) means “something extra.” I hope this year all of you get a “lagniappe” from your membership. Your Society Membership Meeting Program Chairs
Dr. Victor van Greuningen and I have put together an incredible line up with that in mind. You don’t want to miss our September, November and January meetings. Dr. Charlie Ward and Mr. Joshua Polansky
will present “The Evolution to Digital Dentistry” on Monday, September 18. We are excited to bring this meeting to a new location for Hinman, The Emory Conference Center. On November 13, we will meet at
the Westin Perimeter North where Mr. Charles Loretto will share his lecture “Day One of Ownership to Retirement: The Journey to a Thriving Practice.”
We will end the year at the beloved Georgia Aquarium with Ms. Laci Phillips Newland on January 18. She will speak on communication and team leadership. Laci is a fan-favorite of our attendees
at the March meeting and if you have never heard her, you are in for a treat! Thanks in advance to our Hospitality Chairs, Drs. Brett and Lyndsay Langston, and their committee for their service at the
Membership Meetings this year. Remember each member has committed to attend at least one Membership Meeting each year, although Dr. van Greuningen and I feel all of these are not to be missed.
Come get your “lagniappe” from this line up and enjoy a good time with fellow members.
Rolling on to March 21-23, Dr. Sedgie Newsom and his Program Chairs, Drs. Jonathan Dubin and Patrick French, have been hard at work planning and building the program for the 111th Thomas P. Hinman
Dental Meeting. “The Gateway to Systemic Health: It starts with a Smile” is full of highly sought-after continuing education. Please support your Meeting by signing up for a committee and serving your
required eight hours. Your dedication and work ethic make Hinman unique and special.
Our Society would not be where it is today without the tireless efforts of the unremarkable Hinman staff. Under the leadership of Ms. Lynn Leidel, our Executive Director, the Hinman staff works
diligently to run the daily operations of our Society. Their commitment to excellence and attention to detail shines through in every task they undertake. A BIG thank you to Lynn, Wendy, Stephanie, Jackie,
Britney and Caitlyn for all you do for Hinman!
Finally, what we all look forward to after a long and successful year is a trip to the beach! Join us for the Hinman Annual Meeting at the Sonesta Resort on the beautiful island of Hilton Head. Dr. Matt Mazzawi
is in the planning stages now for a memorable weekend with family and fellow members, making this annual tradition one you won’t want to miss. So, mark your calendars now for May 31-June 2, 2024.
I look forward to this upcoming year serving as your President and will do my best to uphold the standards of excellence and true traditions of the Society. Please contact me at any time if I can of any
assistance to make your membership the best it can be. Once again, my hope is that each of you get to experience a little “lagniappe” this year!
