Dentists are often the primary care providers who patients consult to evaluate oral lesions. Appropriately diagnosing and managing oral mucosal diseases can be challenging. A sound understanding of oral mucosal diseases and employing a systematic approach for examination and assessment will allow for an efficient, accurate diagnosis. This presentation will outline conditions affecting the oral soft tissues and how to manage them while aiding clinicians in forming differential diagnoses, understanding how to order appropriate diagnostic tests and the appropriate management of oral mucosal lesions.
