Hinman 2016: ‘Your Total Health Connection’

This year’s Thomas P. Hinman Dental Meeting — the nation’s leading dental meeting and comprehensive source of continuing education in dentistry — is providing “Your Total Health Connection.”
The 104th Hinman features more than 75 speakers, including 27 who are new to Hinman; nearly 250 courses with Mini-Residencies in pediatrics, geriatrics and cone beam anatomy; the returning G.O.L.D. (Graduates of the Last Decade) program; a new S.I.L.V.E.R. (Strategies to Implement that Lead to a Valuable, Enjoyable Retirement) program for dentists looking to retire; the new Total Health Pavilion in the exhibit hall; and nearly 400 companies demonstrating the latest in dentistry.

“Hinman offers an exciting lineup this year of best-in-class continuing education and exhibits that will provide your total health connection for everyone in attendance,” said Dr. Jim Roos, general chairman of the 2016 Hinman Dental Meeting. “We have assembled truly the best in the profession with a number of speakers new to Hinman, as well as special programs and courses designed to elevate learning for our more than 21,000 dentists and dental professionals who attend our annual meeting.”

Continuing Education Program

Across three days, Hinman offers nearly 250 courses, including 83 participation and interactive courses giving dental professionals an opportunity to learn new procedures, as well as fine-tune their skills. Returning this year, the G.O.L.D. Program is designed for dentists that have graduated in the last 10 years and provides critical business guidance to enable long-term success in independent practice ownership. The program is from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday and features key experts in dentistry, including Dr. Wayne Kerr, Mr. Steve Anderson, Mr. Wes Moss, Mr. Joseph Jordan, Dr. Gordon Christensen, and Dr. Parag Kachalia.

This year, there are a number of all-day and half-day Mini-Residencies, educational tracks and courses for the entire dental team.

Meeting Highlights

In addition to a complete continuing education program, Hinman will feature nearly 400 companies, located conveniently in one hall and on one level. Exhibitors will showcase new technology, equipment, products and services for the entire dental staff. The exhibit hall will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. There will be plenty of opportunity for dentists and dental professionals to shop the floor and get their product and equipment questions answered by exhibitors in an efficient setting.

New this year on the exhibit floor is the Total Health Pavilion, featuring lectures on nutrition and health with the opportunity to earn one hour of CE for each hour of attendance. Sponsored by Hinman, the American Diabetes Association, American Lung Association, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Clinicians Complex Medical Skincare and H2Ocean, the Total Health Pavilion offers courses 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Thursday; 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Friday; and 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. on Saturday. Seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

This year’s meeting highlights:

Thursday’s Keynote Session features Captain Richard Phillips, the famous sea captain whose ship was captured by Somali pirates in 2009.

A Dental Student Networking Lunch at 11:30 a.m. Saturday will discuss topics not learned in school.

A special Prize Program that features Hinman’s Big Raffle will raise money for scholarships and give away multiple prizes. Tickets can be purchased in the main Registration area. Prizes include the Grand Prize (50 percent of the net proceeds earned from raffle ticket sales), a second prize ($2,000 Ritz-Carlton gift card) and third prize ($1,000 Home Depot gift card).

Social activities, which include a Wine Tasting Event, AmericasMart shopping, a Hinman Luncheon with Hollywood producerJeffrey Stepakoff, an Atlanta Brews Cruise stopping at local craft breweries and brewpubs, Junior League of Atlanta Tour of Kitchens and a golf outing to Topgolf Atlanta.

Hinman’s Night Out: Dancing in the Dome is a new Hinman event in the Georgia Dome featuring the band Starstruck, which will play music through the decades from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Friday.
