A Message from Society President Dave Lee

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving, and a blessed time to celebrate your faith. I can’t believe it’s already time to wish you a Happy New Year, but not without taking a minute to review the last Hinman events of 2011! One of the great honors of being your President is the opportunity to represent our Society at the University of Tennessee Hinman Student Research Symposium the third weekend of October. Please take a minute to read the lead article in this month’s letter. It made me proud to know that 17 years ago the leaders of Hinman made a wonderful decision to make a difference in the future of dentistry.

Dental research, and its application to clinical dentistry, was the foundation for Dr. Gordon Christensen’s presentation at our November Membership meeting. His ability to objectively address an unbelievable variety of materials, devices and techniques makes him unique in the world of dentistry. Knowing that Hinman provides so many scholarships to dental education, he graciously presented a full day lecture at a significantly reduced honorarium. I know it was a great day of learning for me.

As we look to our membership meeting on January 19, 2012 at the Georgia Aquarium, I hope you’ll bring your entire staff to enjoy a few hours with two great speakers. Ms. Linda Miles and Dr. Tanya Brown both started their dental careers as chair side assistants, and then progressed to be leaders in our profession: Ms. Miles as one of the most respected consultants in dentistry, and Dr. Brown as a respected cosmetic dentist and extremely successful leader in the business of dentistry. Their presentation will encourage all office staffs to create dynamic and successful dental practices.

From the January membership meeting it will be only two months until the celebration of 100 years of Hinman. Dr. Allen French along with Dr. Jane Puskas, 100-year committee chairman, have planned some unique and memorable events for the 100th Hinman.

Most of all, remember that the Hinman meeting could never enjoy this tremendous success without every Hinman member being involved. Please follow your committee assignments closely, and be sure to mark your calendars for your respected committee meeting. If you have any questions, or you need to sign up for a committee, be sure to contact our Hinman office to be included in the celebration. And while you’re on the phone with the ladies at our office, be sure and tell them they’re the best in the world! I’ll see you soon, and thanks for all you do.
